Ring Sizing Guide

Buying the perfect ring is exciting, but getting the right size? That’s where things can get a little tricky. We’ve heard it all—some customers say our rings run big, others say they’re small, and some say they’re just right. It can feel like a bit of a Goldilocks moment when it comes to ring sizing, but we’re here to make the process as smooth as possible.

So, why is ring sizing so confusing? The truth is, the jewelry industry doesn’t always follow a universal standard. Much like clothing and shoes, ring sizes can vary from brand to brand, or even from one style to another. We believe in transparency when it comes to sizing, and we’ve taken extra steps to ensure our rings are as accurately sized as possible.

Our Sizing Method: Trusting the Durston PrecisionFit™ Steel Tapered Ring Mandrel

At House of Metalworks, we use the Durston PrecisionFit™ Steel Tapered Ring Mandrel from Rio Grande—one of the most trusted professional jewelry supply companies in the industry. This ensures that our ring sizes are as accurate as possible.

But despite all our efforts, there can still be some variation in how rings fit due to personal preferences. Some people prefer a snug fit, while others like a bit more room to breathe. That's why we always recommend having your finger sized by a professional jeweler before placing an order.

We have two at home options to help you size yourself:

Ring Sizer Tool:

We sell an affordable ring sizer in our shop. This ring sizer works like a belt. Simply push the end through the buckle to form a ring shape.

  • Slip the multisizer onto your finger.
  • Adjust to give a comfortable fit, checking that it just slips back over the knuckle.
  • When best fit is achieved, your size is indicated by the arrow.

Printable Ring Size Chart:

We’ve created a chart calibrated to our ring mandrels here in the studio. You can download it here for free and use it to get a more accurate measurement at home.

Download directions:

  • This download is formatted to print on 8.5 x 11" paper.
  • Print as default size or scale at 100%
  • To check that the chart is printed properly, take a ruler and measure the ruler on this page. They should match.
  • Once printed to correct size you can place your ring on the chart to figure out what size you will need to order.
  • Please note that when using the digital download, it is important to follow the printing instructions carefully to ensure accurate sizing. Make sure to print the guide at 100% scale without any scaling or resizing.

Please also keep in mind, temperature can affect your finger size—warm weather can cause swelling, while cold conditions can make your fingers shrink. For the most accurate result, try to measure your finger when you're at a neutral, comfortable temperature.

Remember, the fit of a ring can vary depending on the design and width of the band. If you are unsure between two sizes, we recommend choosing the larger size for a more comfortable fit.

Should your ring not fit perfectly, we're happy to exchange non-custom pieces. Please note that buyers are responsible for the shipping costs in both directions.
