About Metals & Jewelry Care

At House of Metalworks, we use metals that stand the test of time. Following these general guidelines will help you keep your pieces looking their best.

Store Your Jewelry Properly

When you're not wearing your jewelry, it's important to store it in a safe and dry place. Avoid exposing your pieces to moisture, direct sunlight, or extreme temperatures, as these can cause tarnishing or damage. Use a ziplock bag to protect your items from scratches and oxidation.

Clean Your Jewelry Regularly

To maintain the shine and luster of your jewelry, it's recommended to clean it regularly. You can use a mild soap and warm water solution to gently remove dirt and oils. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials, as they can scratch or damage the surface of your jewelry.

Use Polishing Cloths

For a quick and convenient way to restore the shine of your jewelry, we offer polishing cloths for sale. These cloths are specially designed to remove tarnish and bring back the brilliance of your sterling silver, gold filled, rose gold filled, brass, bronze, copper, aluminum, and stainless steel pieces. Simply rub the cloth gently over the surface of your jewelry to restore its original luster.

Avoid Contact with Harsh Substances

To prevent damage to your jewelry, it's important to avoid contact with harsh substances such as perfume, lotion, hairspray, and household chemicals. These substances can cause discoloration, tarnishing, or even corrosion. It's best to remove your jewelry before applying any beauty or cleaning products.

Metals used in our collections:

Sterling Silver ♻️: Sterling silver, a blend of metals, is prone to tarnishing when exposed to air and moisture, with factors like sunlight and salt water accelerating the process. To maintain its shine, store sterling silver in airtight containers, use tarnish-preventing products, and keep it in cool, dry places. Regular wear often keeps it lustrous, but a polishing cloth can quickly restore its brightness. For tougher tarnish, silver polish paste is effective.

Gold Filled & Rose Gold Filled: Gold-filled jewelry is crafted through a process that heat and pressure-bonds a thin layer of karat gold to a brass core or another base metal. This method ensures an actual layer of karat gold is present, far more than just a thin film, offering durability that surpasses plated items. Unlike plated materials, the gold layer is robust and will not wear or chip away. While gold-filled pieces are tarnish-resistant, they benefit from occasional polishing with a cloth to keep their luster.

Brass & Bronze: Known for their durability and affordability, brass and bronze can last for decades with the right care. They may cause a greenish tint on the skin due to their copper content reacting with skin oils, particularly under tight conditions and in warm climates. Regular wear and cleaning can minimize this effect. A polishing cloth can easily restore their shine.

Aluminum ♻️: As a lightweight, hypoallergenic alternative to sterling silver, aluminum offers affordability without sacrificing quality. It's resistant to rust and tarnish, making maintenance as simple as washing with soap and a quick polish. Plus, it's often made from recycled materials, making it an eco-friendly choice.

Stainless Steel: Known for its strength and resistance to tarnishing, stainless steel is an ideal choice for everyday wear. It withstands the elements, ensuring that your cherished piece maintains its shine and integrity over time. Its hypoallergenic properties make it a perfect option for sensitive skin, promising comfort without compromising on style.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your House of Metalworks jewelry remains beautiful and radiant for years to come. Remember, proper care and maintenance are key to preserving the quality and longevity of your cherished pieces.
